fall decor must-haves

Well, that was a longer than expected pause from blogging! Opening Blue Nest Mercantile has been pretty similar to having a newborn…sleepless nights, mornings that come way too quickly, constant planning and adjusting and adapting, but, just like having that newborn, I wouldn’t change a minute of the last few months. I got the urge to start up the blog again a couple of weeks ago and I’m finally having a quiet moment to get a few thoughts down. What better way to jump back in that to talk about my absolute favorite season: FALL!

Being a Texas girl, I never knew how glorious fall could be until we moved to North Carolina in 2008. I think I probably took about 1,000 pictures that first fall. Vibrant leaves on towering trees, pumpkin patches filled with pumpkins of every color, shape and size, sweaters and boots, hayrides, cider, all of the warm fuzzies that fall brings. And, the decor. The change from crisp, clean lines of summer to cozy textures, spiced scents and the amazing rich, deep colors.

At the Mercantile we have been overflowing with fall for a while now and every time a new shipment comes in, we all “ooh” and “aah” over the next pretty thing we unbox. Here are a few of our top sellers that will turn any house into a home this fall season:

HOPS:

Hops rings, stems, spheres, give me all the hops! This is such a simple way to add texture, color and variety to your fall decor and these are, by far, our number one best seller this time of year. Place a hops ring on a candleholder, put a pumpkin inside, rest them upright in a built in or nestle them in a basket. Hops stems instantly transform vases to beautiful fall centerpieces and hops spheres take the place of candles on wide base candleholders or even taper candleholders.

THROW BLANKETS:

My family uses throws year round, it just gives us all a “home-y” feeling to curl up with a nice throw blanket, even in the middle of the summer. These are some of our fall favorites, not only because they are beautiful but because they are a nice weight for the chillier nights of fall. Drape one over a chair or over the side of a basket next to the fireplace. Keep one in your car for football games and midday picnics!

FALL POTPOURRI:

Aren’t these the sweetest little pumpkins? And, not only are they adorable, they smell pretty amazing! We love these little bags because they can be used as filler in a hurricane candle, tucked inside a gift basket or poured into a dough bowl for a hint of fall anywhere in your home.

WREATHS:

I think I speak for everyone when I say that you can pretty much tell the season by the wreath placed on most front doors. These are two of the fall wreaths we carry at the Mercantile and both are the perfect mix of “home” and fall. Whether hanging on your front door, in front of a mirror, on a wreath stand or placed on a shelf, these wreaths are perfect for your fall decor!
