ten things i adore from the studio mcgee collection for target

Shea McGee is one of my favorite designers so when I heard she has a collection at Target I ran right over to check it out. Her designs are so approachable, warm and comforting and her little details can make any space feel like a “home”. Since trends change almost seasonally, it seems, more and more of my clients are wanting items from places like Target instead of committing to high end decor. After all, who wants to drop $100 on a throw pillow in December that you might want to switch out once summer arrives?

SO, after spending some time checking it out, here is a list of my ten favorite things that I absolutely love from the Threshold by Studio McGee collection for Target:

1. Decorative Metal Knot Figurine

Sometimes you just have to add a little visual interest to a space to give a pile of books purpose, to finish off a decorative grouping on the coffee table or to add the finishing touch to a mantel. This decorative metal knot is the perfect addition to any of those spaces!

2. 30”x30” Wonderous Framed Canvas

Whenever I have to select artwork for a client I always tell them, “Artwork is very personal. What I like might speak nothing to you”. But, there sometimes you just have to pick a piece that “makes sense” for the space. This is a visually pleasing and ‘safe’ piece of art that is versatile enough to work in a variety of settings.

3. 10”x 6” Carved Ceramic Vase in Gray

I love using vases of different heights, textures and colors to finish off empty built-in shelves and this one is the perfect built-in filler. It’s neutral color and unique shape mixes with all sorts of decor AND it’s a watertight vase so you can stick greenery in it if you like!

4. 24”x64” Wood Floor Mirror

Mirrors make spaces look bigger and brighter and this one, with its light wood frame, will brighten up any room, hallway or corner. Aside from giving brightness to a space, floor mirrors are great pieces to use on blank walls that don’t seem to have a purpose and this one is perfect for that.

5. 26”x16” Decorative Banana Leaf Rectangle Woven Tray with Cut Off Brown Handles

Who doesn’t love a tray or two? They have so many functions…from coffee table to kitchen table, kitchen island to guest bed. They can hold coffee table books and plants, plates and napkins, magazines and flowers. Or, like one of the ones I use in my own home, grilled cheese sandwiches and soup for my under the weather little ones snuggled up in my bed watching cartoons.

6. 3’x5’ Light Distressed Persian Style Rug - Neutral

The vintage, distressed rug craze is real but, it’s not new. Vintage rugs are some of the most pricey, sought after possessions but now there are so many affordable options. This one blends beautiful, serene color and pattern that works well in a foyer, a mudroom, a kitchen or any other space that needs a little warmth.

7. Rib Knit Throw Blanket

You can never have too many throw blankets, but, I do like a throw blanket that works with the space. The color, weight and texture of this one is perfect for almost any decor! I own this one and love snuggling up with it with a cup of coffee to write a blog, watch a show or cuddle with my babies on the couch before tucking them in bed.

8. Metal Sconce Wall Light - Brass

I’m a sucker for sconces and brass and this one made me swoon. I love the geometric details of this one…the triangular shade and circular mounting plate are simply beautiful. Mounted on either side of a piece of art, a mirror or as bedside lighting, this is a uniquely gorgeous light fixture.

9. 18”x15” Artificial Fern Plant in Pot

Artificial greenery often looks, well, artificial. I would choose to use no greenery over fake-looking greenery but this one looks like the real deal. When I was in design school one of my professors emphasized the importance of bringing nature indoors and I now understand the necessity of that concept. Bringing nature inside makes a space feel warm and home-y and peaceful. If you’re like me and you don’t have a green thumb, artificial plants like this realistic looking one make a great addition to any space.

10. Howell Upholstered Accent Chair with Wood Base

Who doesn’t love a good accent chair? Whether it’s used every day in the family room, tucked away in a reading corner or staged in the corner of a bedroom, accent chairs are some of my favorite pieces of furniture. I can’t take the credit for stumbling across this one, though. One of my clients found this for her space and I was so impressed by her find! For the price it’s a great piece of furniture that is versatile enough to use throughout your home. Pair it with a great throw pillow, a blanket and a task lamp and you have the perfect cozy corner!
